4月上旬、小雨が降る大阪は桜川。桜がちらほら見受けられるが
天候のせいか、少しまだ肌寒い。
ここは、エンゾーが営む『BYTEN』。『BYTEN』とは、昨年の9月に彼がオープンさせた、
おかき屋である。
「お土産って選ぶのが結構難しいけど楽しいから大好きで。」そんな彼の思いがコンセプトとなり、
おかき以外にもお茶や楽しいグッズを扱うショップである。
最近オンラインストアも出来たので、ネットでもおかきを買うこともできる。エンゾーとの出会いは、〈BEAMS PLUS〉がアメリカでPop-up Storeをした時に知り合い、その後は気付いたら僕らのチームの一員に・・・。
話すのが大好きな彼の周りには、いつも
楽しい雰囲気に満ち溢れ、僕らのムードメーカー的な存在。

お店のオープン準備中。カーディガンに開襟シャツとデニムの

ドライなタッチ感が清涼感を与えるストライプモチーフの
カーディガンはこれからの時期も活躍できるアイテム。

オリジナルファブリックとして製作した先染めドビー素材。

さり気ないデザインは
コーディネートの邪魔にならず、一枚での存在感も魅力。

Although we can see that cherry blossoms are blooming,
it’s still chilly due to the weather.
This is "BYTEN" run by Enzo.
“BYTEN" is a shop that sells Okaki, rice crackers, which opened last September.
“I love to pick out souvenirs since it’s delightful, quite difficult though” he said.
The concept of the store is based on this idea, and in addition to Okaki, they also offer tea and other fun goods.
Recently, they opened their online store, so you can also buy Okaki there.
We first met Enzo when〈BEAMS PLUS〉did a pop-up store in the U.S.After that, somehow he became a member of our team.
People are attracted by his cheerful and talkative personality and that makes full of good vibes wherever he is.
Literally he’s like the mood maker of our team.

Preparing for opening the store. He is wearing a cardigan, collar shirt and denim, classic sporty style.
This striped cardigan,
which has a dry touch gives cool and refreshing feelings, will be perfect from now on.
The open collar shirt is inspired by 60's Vintage shirts.
This yarn-dyed dobby material is our original fabric.
The casual design, with a snow pattern woven into the plaid, goes well with various items in coordinates.
In addition, it also has a certain presence even if you wear it as it is.

インテリアデザイナーのジョナサン。
築40年以上の建物(ビル)をエンゾーと二人三脚でリノベーションし、『BYTEN』が誕生したという。アメリカ NY州生まれの
ジョナサンは日本で言う今年還暦の60歳。
1992年から大阪での生活をスタートさせ、顔に似合わず関西弁が混ざった英語を話すチャーミングな
”おやっさん”
(エンゾーがジョナサンを”おやっさん”と呼ぶ)。

自分の好きなプロダクトデザインや、インテリアデザインに
長く携われ、「私はいつでもラッキー！」。
そして、「私の仕事は5分だけです」と。いろんなコトからインスピレーションを得ているジョナサンの
アイデアやデザインの源は、周りの人や、お客様(依頼主)からいろんな話を聞くことを大事にしているという。
そう話す彼は、僕にたくさんいろんな話をしてくれた。撮影の
ディレクターが「そろそろ〜撮影準備を〜」と
言われるまで(笑)。
エンゾーのおしゃべり好きは”おやっさん”譲りだったよう。

インにもアウトにも着用できる、ノーカラースタイルの
エンジニアジャケット。太さのある重厚なリネンの糸を使い、
ワークアイテムに見られるヒッコリーストライプをイメージして
織り上げた素材使い。
素材の特徴を活かした
ナチュラルカラーも春夏らしいスタイリングに相性良し。
天然素材を中心に、
清涼感あるカラーリングとアイテムチョイスは武骨なワークスタイルにも清潔感が溢れる。

Jonathan is an interior designer. He and Enzo renovated a 40-year-old building and "BYTEN" was born.
Jonathan, who was born in New York, USA, is 60 years old, and started living in Osaka in 1992.
(Enzo calls Jonathan "Oyassan",
which is a friendly expression to call elder men.)

“I'm always lucky!” He feels like this to be involved in product and interior design, things he loves.
And also he said, “My work takes only 5 minutes.”
It means that he creates the idea or design being inspired by various things in talking with customers or people around him.
He told me many stories
until the director of the shoot came and said,
"It's time to get ready for the shoot".
It seems that Enzo's talkative personality seems to be inherited from “Oyassan”.

This collarless engineer jacket can be worn as both inner and outer.
The material used is a thick, heavy linen yarn woven to resemble the hickory stripes found in work items.
The fabric is woven by thick and solid linen yarn, imagining the hickory stripes which is the character of work items.
The natural color which is a material's characteristic also goes well with spring and summer styling.
We chose items with cool and refreshing colors to coordinate with this jacket.
This gives a sense of cleanliness
and even to such a rugged work style.

AM 9:00 神戸・元町に到着。雲ひとつない晴天に見舞われ、
じりじりと強い日差しが照りつける。
目の前には海が広がるメリケン波止場。
〈BEAMS PLUS〉のテーラーラインの生産を担ってくれている〈Jizi〉さんのアトリエを目指す二人。

アトリエがある建物は1960年代後半に建てられ、1階は倉庫、
2階と3階が事務所、4階以上が住居
となっている上屋(うわや)。
上屋とは貨物の荷捌きや一時保管を行なっていた施設。
建物の中に入ると1階の天井高さや、コンクリートの冷たい雰囲気がその名残を感じる。隠れ家的な装いの
アトリエの中に入ると、
沢山の貴重な資料、ヴィンテージのインテリアや衣類、小物に
囲まれ、何十年も
前にタイムスリップしたかのような雰囲気の
オーダースペースが待ち受け、至極の体験を味わえる空間。

エンゾーが羽織ったワークシャツ、ジョナサンが履いたミリタリートラウザーズはナイロンの糸を使用して
織り上げた、清涼感のあるマイクロメッシュ。軽く、透けすぎない程度のメッシュ組織は
風通しに優れ、
肌あたりも爽やか。スポーティー過ぎない上品な
光沢感で幅広いスタイリングに活用できそう。

9:00 AM: Arrived at Motomachi, Kobe.
The weather is cloudless and the sun is shining brightly.
There is the Meriken Wharf, the ocean spreads before our eyes.
The two of them head for the atelier of Jizi, who is responsible for the production of〈BEAMS PLUS〉tailor line.

The building where the atelier is located was built in the late 1960s.
The 1st floor is a warehouse,the 2nd and the 3rd floor is an office,
and the 4th floor is a residence.
A shed is a facility used for cargo handling and temporary storage.
Once we entered the building, the high ceilings on the first floor and the cold concrete atmosphere reminded us of the old days.
Entering inside of the hideaway-like atelier, visitors are surrounded by tons of valuable documents,
vintage interior furnishings, clothing, and knick-knacks, and are greeted by an order space that feels
as if they have stepped back in time decades ago.

The work shirt worn by Enzo and the military trousers worn by Jonathan are made of cool and refreshing micro-mesh,
which is woven with nylon threads. The lightweight, not-too-transparent mesh structure provides excellent ventilation and allows us to feel fresh.
This elegant shiny fabric is not too sporty
and will be useful for a wide range of styling.

”あーでもない、こーでもない”なんて、
お互いで褒め合い、アドバイスしながら。
〈BEAMS PLUS〉は
今シーズンから定番のスポーツコート、
トラウザーズに2種類のフィッティングパターンを用意。
ミニマムなスタイルを作り上げる定番のシリーズに加え、
デザイン・ディテールは踏襲しつつも、
肩幅・身幅・袖幅・着丈を
大きく広げた『Box-fit』、そして渡り・太さを持たせ、迫力ある
シルエットが特徴の『Wide Trousers』。
「今の気分には、このぐらいのフィット感がちょうど良い」
二人が披露してくれたコーディネートは、『Box-fit』&『Wide Trousers』のNew〈BEAMS PLUS〉
ジャケット&パンツスタイル。
ドレスな雰囲気も、スポーティーな雰囲気もどちらも
楽しんでもらえるスタイル。

エンゾーが選んだ素材は、ポリエステルレーヨン組織で織り上げた先染めチェック素材。
天然素材のようなナチュラルな風合いと程よいハリ感。ヴィンテージのダークマドラスシャツから
インスピレーションした色・柄は大人っぽい印象を与える。
ジョナサンが選んだ素材は、80/3強撚糸と甘拠りのバルキー糸を使用し、高密度に打ち込まれた
ウェザークロス。
なんと言って魅力なのは、その軽さとスルッとした肌触り。
梳毛ウールのような風合いを特殊加工で表現。
手に取り、袖を通して、素材の驚きを感じてほしい。

The two of them were seeking out jackets and trousers, arguing this and that.
They were complimenting and giving advice to each other.
〈BEAMS PLUS〉has prepared two types of fitting patterns for its standard sport coats and trousers from this season.
In addition to the standard series that create a minimal style, the "Box-fit," which retains the design and details,
but with wider shoulders, body width, sleeve width, and length,
And also "Wide Trousers," which have a powerful silhouette with a wider and thicker cross section.
The fit is just good for my current mood.
They showed us their new〈BEAMS PLUS〉 jacket
and pants style with "Box-fit" and "Wide Trousers.
This style can be enjoyed in both a dressy and sporty atmosphere.

Enzo chose a yarn-dyed check material woven with a polyester-rayon material.
It is tense and has a texture like a natural material. The colors and patterns inspired by vintage dark madras shirts give a mature impression.
Jonathan chose a dense weather cloth made of 80/3 high-twist yarn and sweet loosely-twisted bulky yarn.
What is most attractive is its lightweight and smooth feel. The texture like combed wool is expressed by special processing.
You must be surprised by this special material if you try it once.

ばっちり決め込んだスタイルで、神戸の街中を練り歩く。
メリケンパーク、旧居留地、海岸通り、エトセトラ・・・。
エンゾーは『みなとのもり公園』で好きな
スケートボードや
自転車に乗ってアクティブに過ごすこともしばしば。
好きなJazz喫茶があるとのことで神戸には
よく遊びに来るという。
ジョナサンは、アパレル関係のインテリアの仕事でお店の設計やミーティング等、
昔はたくさん訪れたという。ローカル色が強く、大好きな街の一つだと。

エンゾーが決め込んだスタイルは、麻が混ざった
ウールトロピカル生地。麻のナチュラルな風合いと、
清涼感のある肌あたりが特徴。うっすらと、チラッと見える
チェック柄は派手過ぎず、インナーのシャツの
柄色を選ばない。
今シーズンから登場した『Box-fit』&『Wide Trousers』の
スーツスタイルを披露。
ジョナサンが決め込んだスタイルは、
恰幅の良さを活かした、4B Double Breastedとミリタリー
モチーフのイージートラウザーズのスーツスタイル。
尾州で生産された麻100%のメッシュ組織。
見た目の重厚感、しっかりとした素材原料の肉感を感じて
もらいながらも、裏側からは透けて見える、
軽い仕上がり。
糸染めで構成されたダークマドラス調の
チェックカラーはリゾート感も漂う雰囲気。

家族みんなが仲良しで、買い物に揃って出かけることもあるという二人。今回はずっと二人で会話をしているシーンの撮影も、
カメラが回ろうが止まろうが、終始会話は止むことなし。
肩を抱き寄せ二人並んだシーンは、なんだかこっちが感動した。
嬉しそうなジョナサンと、少し恥ずかしそうなエンゾーの笑顔。
僕がもし“おやっさん”とこんな撮影を頼まれたら・・・、
絶対にこんなに会話なんて弾まないだろうな〜（笑）
『Daddy & Son』、〈BEAMS PLUS〉の隠れたコンセプト。
親子二代、三代続き買い物ができる場所。
今は、“家族みんなが買い物に来たくなるお店”を作りたいな。
と、強く思うことが出来ました。

In their well dressed style, they walk around the streets of Kobe. Meriken Park, the Old Settlement,
Kaigan Dori street, Etcetera.... Enzo often spends his time actively,
such as riding skateboard or bicycle at "Minato no Mori Park. He often comes to Kobe to visit his favorite Jazz cafe.
Jonathan says that he used to visit the city quite often for his interior design work related to apparel, designing stores, meetings, and so on.
He says that Kobe is one of his favorite cities
because of its strong local flavor.

Enzo’s style is composed of wool tropical fabric mixed with hemp.
The natural texture of hemp and its cool and refreshing feel are the characteristics of this fabric.
The checkered pattern is subtle and not too obvious.It goes well with any shirt.
He showed us the brand new style, the "Box-fit" & "Wide Trousers" suit style, from this season.
Jonathan's style is a suit style of 4B Double Breasted and Easy Trousers with a military motif, taking advantage of his good physique.
This is a 100% linen mesh fabric produced in Bishu.
This light finished fabric is actually see-through
from the back side, even though it makes us feel a sense of heaviness
and firmness of the material.
The dark madras check color composed of dyed-yarn has a resort-like atmosphere.

The family is close, and they sometimes go shopping together.
The two were talking together for the entire shoot, and whether the camera was rolling or not, they never stopped talking.
The scene where they stood side by side holding each other by the shoulders was very moving.
Jonathan's happy smile and Enzo's slightly blushing smile.
If I were asked to do a photo shoot like this with my "Oyassan" I'm sure we wouldn't be able to have such a lively conversation...
“Daddy & Son" is a hidden concept at〈BEAMS PLUS〉. A place where parents and children can shop for two or three generations.
I want to create a store where the whole family will want to come this time,
I convinced strongly.
